Plas Newydd: Tour Guide Training
Summer 2011
We have recently run a training exercise for Plas Newydd - a National Trust property in Anglesey.
Motivation were asked to asses scripts used for a guided tour and to then provide a training day for
volunteers and staff who might take on the role of tour guide.
The day encompassed how to develop themed scripts, how to personalise the content so that each guide could
deliver the required information in their own style but with consistency of content and enthusiasm.
We also covered presentation and performance techniques with some team based workshops to help open up
their imagination and think about what visitors actually want from a guided tour.
The day was seen as a great success - with one volunteer trying to work out how to incorporate
"big yellow bananas" into his script - you had to be there!!!
Mary Rose Foundation Stone
Spring 2011
In 2012 a new Mary Rose Museum will open at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
To herald the advent of this exciting project Prince Harry performed the ceremonial laying of the new
museumʼs foundation stone.
Motivation provided the audio visual support for this event, which incorporated a huge
5 meter outdoor LED screen, live cameras to show the princeʼs arrival, him greeting various notable
guests and of course hammering the stone into place.

Touch screens animation at the Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth
17/08/2010
We recently installed a touch-screen programme for the Mary Rose Museum.
It contains a menu of HD video sequences showing the remains of the ship. Information about interesting features,
the different decks, the types of timbers, are all accessible.
Rather than visitors using the system though, it is staffed by volunteers, who provide personal explanations of
the ship’s features, but those in which visitors are interested. The expertise of the volunteers and the
interaction with the visitors is key and visitors are able learn more about the ship in an interesting and personal manner.
