hay

Video provides an opportunity for really engaging stories to be told in a form that is very easy for visitors to feel comfortable with – be it on a large screen or a discrete monitor.

Documentary

Recently we produced a series of nine documentaries about dying rural crafts – travelling the length and breadth of the country filming rake-makers, potters, weavers, blacksmiths and many more. Some of these people were true English eccentrics – watching a man jump on the upturned bottom of a Swill basket he had just made to check its strength was a surprise move for one!

Interviews with these folk edited with a voice-over provided an ideal way to convey their stories in relation to the cut and thrust of mass-manufacturing.

Drama

Dramatisations of historical scenes can prove to be very engaging. At Blenheim Palace, as part of a much larger visitor experience, we produced recreations of some events in the life of some of the Dukes of Marlborough.

Actually the Duchesses played a part too, most memorably, a love scene between the 2nd Duchess and her lover William Congreve. Filmed by the lake at Blenheim, the love story was told by the Duchess Lady’s maid who often accompanied her on these secret (well not so secret actually!) liaisons dangereux. Needless to say, the actor playing William Congreve wanted to “re-take” the kissing scene a few times!!!

Producer’s comment

Whatever the purpose of the programme, be it an introduction, site orientation, re-enactment, short clip for a web-site or a full length programme, we all see high quality programmes on our TV's and visitors’ expectations have become more and more demanding not only in terms of technical quality but also style and creativity. We make sure that we produce engaging programmes that meet these increasingly sophisticated visitor expectations.
